About Thomas

Thomas accepts briefs in all areas of law, with a focus on public law (constitutional law, administrative law, and statutory law).

He also has expertise in complex appeals, including in commercial law and criminal law. He has appeared in over 20 cases before the Full Court of the High Court, acting for individuals, companies and governments.

Immediately before coming to the Bar, Thomas was Counsel Assisting the Solicitor-General of the Commonwealth (then Dr Stephen Donaghue KC). He was previously the Senior Associate to the Hon Justice Michelle Gordon AC of the High Court. Before and after his time as an associate, he was a solicitor at the Australian Government Solicitor.

Thomas is one of the co-authors of Constitutional Law in Australia (5th ed, 2024, with P Hanks KC, F Gordon KC and G Hill SC).
