Michael is a highly experienced counsel and dispute resolution specialist (Senior Counsel, SC, at Johannesburg Bar), specialising in complex construction and commercial disputes.
He brings over 25 years of advocacy experience, including a substantial career as a Senior Counsel (SC) at the Johannesburg Bar, South Africa, practising in construction and commercial law, complemented by specialised practice within Australia’s leading construction and project law sectors.
Michael accepts briefs to appear in construction and commercial litigation and arbitration (including international arbitration), contractual dispute adjudications, and security of payment adjudication matters. He regularly represents international entities, engineering companies, major contractors, and professional indemnity insurers.
In construction law, Michael’s experience includes a wide variety of disputes in projects ranging from major infrastructure projects, including Public Private Partnerships, to commercial, industrial and residential disputes. Examples include petro-chemical plants, power plants (including pumped storage/hydro-electric, solar, and coal fired plants), fibre optic networks, electrical transmission lines, international sports stadia, roads, mining projects including tailings dams, process plants, runway extensions, and sewer and storm water services.
Michael’s commercial law experience includes litigation, arbitration and advice in insurance, professional negligence, corporate, contract, property, banking and general commercial matters.
Before joining the Victorian Bar, Michael practiced as Special Counsel at MolinoCahill a boutique Australian construction law firm. Prior to being called to the Johannesburg Bar in 1998, Michael worked at a leading Johannesburg law firm, qualifying for admission as an attorney (solicitor) in South Africa.
