Renée Enbom KC has a broad practice encompassing defamation, police torts, public inquiries, class actions, insurance matters and general commercial disputes.
Renée has extensive experience in public inquiries, having both chaired an inquiry and represented parties in most major Australian inquiries over the past decade. In 2025, she was appointed Chair of the Board of Inquiry into the McCrae landslide. Her final report is available here: https://www.mccraeinquiry.vic.gov.au/.
Her inquiry appearance work includes acting for Victoria Police, former Chief Commissioners Christine Nixon and Ken Lay and individual police members in the Royal Commission into the Management of Police Informants (2019–20). She has also appeared in numerous other inquiries, including the Yoorrook Justice Commission; MRH-90; defence and veteran suicide; violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation of people with disability; misconduct in the banking, superannuation and financial services industry; and the Black Saturday bushfires. She is currently acting in the Royal Commission on Antisemitism and Social Cohesion.
Renée has appeared in many significant defamation cases. In the 2022 edition of The Best Lawyers in Australia, she was recognised by her peers as “Lawyer of the Year” in defamation.
Her class action experience includes acting for the State of Victoria and individual Ministers in the Hotel Quarantine class action, as well as appearing in major proceedings including Roo-Roofing (the Commonwealth’s Home Insulation Program), the Murrindindi bushfires, and the Centro, GPT, Newcrest, Korean Air Lines and MLC class actions.
Renée is currently Deputy Chairperson of the AFL Tribunal and has acted in a wide range of sporting disputes, including the anti-doping proceedings involving the Essendon Football Club. She was recognised as “Lawyer of the Year” in sports law in the 2026 edition of The Best Lawyers in Australia.
Renée is named in the 2027 edition of The Best Lawyers in Australia for commercial law, defamation and media law, and sports law.
Renée has served on the Victorian Bar Ethics Committee.
