Olaf is an experienced junior practising in competition, regulatory and public law.
He appears, typically led by silk and with day-to-day carriage of the matter, in complex litigation in the Federal Court, the High Court, and the Supreme Court of Victoria, and in major public inquiries.
Competition. Olaf has acted in significant competition litigation in the Federal Court, including as junior counsel for Epic Games in proceedings against Apple and Google.
Inquiries and royal commissions. Olaf has appeared in the ACCC inquiry into the supermarket sector, and for the Premier of Victoria in the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide and the COVID-19 Hotel Quarantine Inquiry. He has also acted in matters before the Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission.
Regulatory. Olaf has substantial experience in regulatory investigations and civil penalty proceedings, acting both for regulators and for major corporate respondents. His work includes privacy and data protection, energy retail regulation, consumer protection, and financial benchmark and market manipulation matters under the Corporations Act 2001.
Public law. Olaf advises and appears in constitutional and administrative law matters for governments, regulators and private parties. He has been recognised in Doyle’s Guide as a leading Victorian junior in Administrative and Public Law in 2023, 2024 and 2025.
Before coming to the Bar, Olaf was an associate to the Hon Justice Crennan AC of the High Court, Researcher to the Solicitor-General for Victoria, and an associate to the Hon Justice McLeish of the Court of Appeal. He practised as a solicitor at the Victorian Government Solicitor’s Office and Mallesons Stephen Jaques.
Olaf has mentored four readers at the Victorian Bar and is appointed by the Attorney-General of Victoria as a member of the Victoria Legal Aid Panel of Independent Reviewers.
