Emma practices in general commercial litigation, in addition to property and employment-related disputes. Her practice comprises significant litigation in the Federal and Supreme Courts across a variety of areas of law including contract, consumer protection, restraint of trade (commercial and employment), property (sale of land, estate agents, restitution and compulsory acquisition/land valuation) and construction disputes, and discrimination.
Emma has acted in cases involving industries such as mining, aged care, franchising, banking, manufacturing, health, insurance and retail. She has experience in Royal Commission work and securities class actions, and is familiar with regulatory issues relating to the aged care sector as a result of acting for Bupa Aged Care Australia Pty Ltd in defence of a discrimination claim.
Before joining the Bar, Emma was a Senior Associate in the Commercial Disputes Group at Minter Ellison. At Minter Ellison, she acted for major corporates in large-scale litigation, including for Crown Melbourne Limited in the high-profile claim brought by alleged pathological gambler, Harry Kakavas, and acting for the ANZ following the collapse of Opes Prime Group Limited. Emma also advised and acted for tertiary education providers, large retail landlords and banks.
In 2002, Emma was Associate to Justice Kenny of the Federal Court and assisted her Honour in relation to all matters within her docket, covering topics such as intellectual property, bankruptcy, migration and taxation.
