New readers September 2025

We are thrilled to announce that Katherine France, Georgie Clough, Rohan Nanthakumar, Priyanka Banerjee, Sam Hamilton Lindsay, and Selena Bateman have joined List A Barristers following their successful completion of the Readers’ Course and admission to the Roll of the Victorian Bar.

All members of List A Barristers extend a warm welcome to our new Readers as they embark on this exciting new chapter in their legal careers.

Katherine France

Before coming to the Bar, Katherine (Kat) was a Senior Associate in the Disputes & Investigations team at Allens, a Senior Associate at Kaplan Hecker & Fink (now Hecker Fink) in New York, and an Associate in the Dispute Resolution team at MinterEllison. Kat also served as Senior Associate to the Hon Justice Michelle Gordon AC of the High Court of Australia.

Kat holds a Juris Doctor from Melbourne Law School, where she ranked fourth in her graduating cohort and was an Editor of the Melbourne University Law Review. Kat also holds a Master of Laws from Harvard Law School, where she studied as a Frank Knox Memorial Fellow.

Kat is reading with Julia Watson and Geoff Kozminsky. Her senior mentor is Frances Gordon KC

Georgie Clough

Before coming to the Bar, Georgie was an Associate to the Honourable Justice Walker of the Court of Appeal, a solicitor at Allens and a teaching fellow at Melbourne Law School.

Georgie holds a PhD in public law and a Juris Doctor (second in class) from the University of Melbourne. She also holds a Bachelor of Philosophy (Hons) with First Class Honours from the Australian National University.

Georgie is reading with Olaf Ciolek. Her senior mentor is Mark Costello KC.

Rohan Nanthakumar

Before joining the Bar, Rohan was Associate to the Hon Chief Justice Susan Kiefel AC at the High Court of Australia; Counsel Assisting the Solicitor-General for Victoria (then Kristen Walker KC and Rowena Orr KC); counsel at the Australian Government Solicitor; and a commercial litigator at Allens. He also worked with human rights and environmental law organisations in Australia.   

Rohan has extensive international law experience. He has advised governments, international organisations and communities across Asia and the Pacific, including through his work at Blue Ocean Law. Amongst numerous cases, he was notably on Vanuatu’s counsel team in the Advisory Opinion on the Obligations of States in respect of Climate Change before the International Court of Justice.

Rohan has a Master of Law (LLM) from the University of Cambridge and a Bachelor of Economics and Laws (Hons) from the University of Tasmania. He teaches in the Masters program at Melbourne Law School and previously lectured in public and constitutional law in the JD program.

Rohan is reading with Timothy Goodwin. His senior mentors are Fiona Forsyth KC and Chris Carr SC.

Priyanka Banerjee

Prior to coming to the Bar, Priyanka was an associate to the Hon Chief Justice Gageler AC at the High Court of Australia. Beforehand, she was an Associate at Allens practising in commercial litigation and insolvency, and was an associate to the Hon Justice Moshinsky at the Federal Court of Australia.

Priyanka holds a Master of Laws from Harvard University, where she studied as a Fulbright Scholar, as well as a Juris Doctor from the University of Melbourne where she was the recipient of the Supreme Court Prize alongside various subject prizes. She was also an Editor of the Melbourne University Law Review. Priyanka also holds a Bachelor of Commerce with Honours in Economics from the University of Melbourne.

Priyanka is reading with Sarah Zeleznikow and her senior mentor is Dr Michael Rush KC.

Sam Hamilton Lindsay

Before coming to the Bar, Sam practised as a solicitor in commercial litigation at Herbert Smith Freehills, where he worked on general commercial disputes, construction and infrastructure matters, domestic and international arbitration, and compulsory acquisition. He also has experience in government, having practised as a senior solicitor in constitutional and public law at the Victorian Government Solicitor’s Office. Sam was an Associate to Justice Bromberg of the Federal Court of Australia where he worked on public law, major torts, industrial, and native title matters.

Sam holds a Bachelor of Civil Law (Distinction) from the University of Oxford where he studied on an Allan Myers Scholarship. He also holds a Juris Doctor (First Class Honours), a Bachelor of Arts (Classics) and a Diploma of Languages from the University of Melbourne.

Sam is reading with Tim Jeffrie. His senior mentor is Premala Thiagarajan SC.

Selena Bateman

Before coming to the Bar, Selena was an Associate to Justice Stephen Gageler AC of the High Court of Australia and earlier Associate to Justice Alan Robertson AM of the Federal Court of Australia; Counsel Assisting the Solicitor-General of the Commonwealth, Dr Stephen Donaghue KC; and a senior lawyer at the Australian Government Solicitor. She also worked on the Victorian Royal Commission into the Management of Police Informants.

Most recently, Selena has worked at an international environmental NGO, advising government in treaty negotiations and working on cases before the International Court of Justice and Inter-American Court of Human Rights.

Selena has a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and a Bachelor of Arts from the ANU, where she graduated first in her law cohort. She also has a Master of Laws from Harvard University.

She has taught various courses in private and public law at the ANU and the University of Melbourne.

Selena is reading with Kane Loxley. Her senior mentor is Kathleen Foley SC.
